Elevation Story:

My elevation and vigil was a surprise. The Shire of Gladenfeld hosted the event in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee at the Easter Seals Camp.
An ice storm kept the attendance low and was so bad that the fighting was also cancelled. I sat vigil Friday night after TRM
Meridies surprised me in the Great Hall.  A tent was erected outside and I donned the traditional white tunic and kneeled for the
next 8 hours as I received visitors. (see Hadi did not pour the traditional water on my head, due to the cold. Two of my squire
brother's (Griffin) squires stood outside my tent as guards throughout the entire night. Their cloaks were frozen solid from the
mix of rain and ice. The next morning the weather cleared, but was still very cold. Many more Knights showed up and I was
placed on Vigil again for an additional 7 hours, were I received very good advice from Peers and the populace alike. My ceremony
was very traditional. The Knights of the Order were called to HRM. Count Hadi, my Knight, withdrew my silver chain, my red
squire belt, and my silver squire spurs. Countess Ameraulde presented me with my 1st Knights belt. THL Maysun presented me
with my Spurs. HRM Sabine de Rouen presented me with my gold Chain, and finally Count Hadi presented me with his own
Knights belt with my sword encased in a hand made wooden sheath, made by Hadi, himself. HRM Gareth placed the Sword of
State upon my head and I recited the oath of fealty as a Knight.
Favorite Vigil Moments:

"The elevation was such a surprise. I do not think it really clicked for several hours. There was a member of the populace who
had brought a new member of the SCA to my vigil, and as I explained to her what Knighthood meant and about chivalry in the
Society, it reconfirmed how precious the accolade was that I had been granted."

"There was a candle in my vigil tent that would not stay lit. After several tries, I asked that it be left out, to represent the recent
death of my Grandmother. It was symbolic of how many people outside of the SCA have influenced my values and  assisted me
with the preparation of being a Knight in the Society"

"The second part of my vigil was held in a cabin, due to the weather, and someone had left a glass of apple juice on the shelf
above my head. Three Knights came in together and asked if Hadi had required a drug test before he would allow me to be
elevated. It was very funny and the humor was compounded when one of the Knights took the "Specimen" out into the hall and
announced that I was apparently drug free to the populace who were in line, waiting to see me on vigil."
